Yiorgis Xilouris, also known as Psaroyiorgis, comes from a legendary Cretan family of musicians. Born at the mountainous village of Anogia, Crete, he studied lute next to his father Psarantonis. Gifted with abundant talent and inspiring virtuosity, he turned lute from a traditional accompaniment to the lyre into a leading instrument. He is thus innovating Cretan traditional music but doing so with great love and respect. He lived in Australia for many years, where, together with some Irish musicians, he formed a band called Xylouris Ensemble (Antipodes). Together they released 3 CDs.
Now based in Crete, where he lives and works, he is also performing around Greece.
In 2012 his album «Oso ki an derni o anemos» [Even though beats the wind] was released from Alltogethernow records , driving traditional music to experimental , rock paths . This album was the result of the co-operation of Psarogiorgis , Yiannis Aggelakas , Yiagos Heretis and Nikos Veliotis .
